A revolutionary retinal examination has been developed in order to provide patients with a quick and easy visit to their optometrist or ophthalmologist. Since its creation, the Optomap® has provided doctors with the necessary tools available to detect problems earlier. As of March 31, 2006, over seven million patients have chosen to participate in Optomap® Retinal Examinations. The Optomap Retinal Exam is capable of detecting diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, retinal holes, tears and detachments, macular degeneration, malignant melanomas and many other retinal disorders. The Optomap Retinal Exam allows our doctors to successfully assess the health of your retina faster and easier with the help of digital imaging. Digital imaging of the retina produces results within seconds, allowing your doctor to immediately review your current condition.

This unique retinal examination can be integrated into your routine eye examination. The Optomap Retinal Exam is non-invasive and available for all ages, ranging from children to the elderly. Contacts may be worn during the examination. Optomap gives doctors a comprehensive view of the eye without dilution, which is uncomfortable and time consuming. Without dilution, patients won’t experience symptoms such as blurring or sensitivity to light and can resume activities immediately following the examination.

Regular routine eye exams provide a limited, narrow view of the retina (typically up to 45 degrees or about 5 percent). Because of this, conventional methods might miss certain eye or non-eye disorders and diseases that may be present. The Optomap provides an advanced periphery of the retina (200 degrees), allowing for a broader, and more ample view of the eye.
